Today's socio-political climate has made room for marginalized peoples to express their voices. New social justice warriors are taking advantage of wildly democratic spaces of social media to stake their claim and disrupt the status quo. They are denouncing the systemic racism, inequality, and injustice found throughout America. This new open climate has given rise to rediscover suppressed histories. Our nation has always had special people who have worked for equality and social justice. We need to incorporate their beliefs, courage, and stories into our collective history.
Here We Stand is a collection of multi-media works that focus on America's social justice movements and the unknown peoples who championed them. These works share the stories of individuals who have stood up by force or by faith to defend their beliefs. This series examines our moral compass as both individuals and a nation. It asks whether if we are seeing history repeated or are we making forward progress in the dream of equality for all.
